Cited as one of the world’s fastest growing cities, Orlando, Florida is not only famous for being home to some of America’s greatest theme parks, but it is also renowned for its role in the fields of digital media and bio medicine. Located in the Orange County, it covers an area of more than 100 square miles and has a population of nearly 225,000 people. Although it is one of the busiest cities in the US for conferences and conventions, it is tourism that forms Orlando’s economic basis: it is estimated that the city attracts around 52 million visitors annually.
And, with a subtropical climate, boasting year-round sunshine, coupled with beautiful sandy beaches and a plethora of places to visit, it is easy to see why it is such an attractive destination. In particular, it is an ideal location for family holidays, since it offers such a varied entertainment programme for children, whilst at the same time including many attractions of interest for the parents. Arguably its most famous attraction, the Walt Disney World Resort – which is actually located just outside of Orlando, in Lake Buena Vista – has grown to become the biggest resort of its kind in the world. Established in 1971, it currently includes four theme parks, two water parks, twenty-three themed hotels, Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Disney’s Animal Kingdom, where in with the latter it is even possible to go on a safari! In addition to the numerous theme parks that can be found in and around Orlando, you can also take advantage of its numerous beaches and water activities.
For example, you can go surfing at Cocoa Beach, which is well-known for its wide sandy beaches and excellent waves, or you can venture to Discovery Cove, where there is the option to swim with bottlenose dolphins. Although Orlando is ideal as a family destination, it has a lot more to offer than just the action and adventure attractions. Indeed, for those who want to experience the other side of the city, there are a number of interesting and unique experiences to be had. For instance, Orlando has a bustling nightlife with a range of vibrant bars and nightclubs. Since the city is home to many active music scenes such as hip hop, rock music and reggaeton, it is possible to experience a diverse mixture of music, as well as people.
Alternatively, there are a number of cultural activities to partake in, including museums, art galleries and theatres. And who can forget the numerous golf courses that Orlando has to offer, which range from those suitable for the professionals right down to beginners level.
